Closing Day for Ski Season on Katahdin

Tomorrow, March 31, is the closing day of the ski/winter season for Maine’s Baxter State Park…(If you head out tonight, you could probably be on the summit of Katahdin by noon Thursday.) Every year, starting April 1, the privately-owned park is left for Mother Nature to run her course, until late May. April would arguably be the sweetest time of season to be skiing in the park, but then again, it’s cool to know that the area gets to be left alone now and then, too…

Here’s a snap from late March a few years back, skiing off Hamlin Peak just north of Katahdin. – Brian
