We’re hoping that the fishing turns out to be at least this good in Norway, too…
After catching up on some much needed sleep last night, we ate a very late breakfast before setting our sights for Tromso’s iconic local mountain – Tromsdaltinden – which is featured in the photo below. Looming large approx. 4000′ above this Arctic island town, Tromsdaltinden was impossible to resist. And at the crack of 2:30pm [...]
After dodging Iceland-born volcanic ash while crossing the Atlantic this morning, Emily, Forrest Twombly and I arrived to the higher latitudes of Arctic Norway. Two hours spent rigging our ski-bikes for the weeks of adventure ahead were followed by a pleasant bike ride to a cozy b&b in the island city of Tromso. Home to [...]
(Click on image to enlarge) Here’s one of the four bicycles (with some refinements reminaing) that our crew we’ll begin riding this coming Friday, April 23, at the airport in Tromso, Norway. With the support of the Consulate General of Norway, and on assignment for WEND Magazine, Adventure Cyclist, and others, we are embarking on [...]
In late March, Vermont-raised Jack Hannan – a inspirational and passionate skier, husband and friend of many – was taken by a Class 3 avalanche in British Columbia’s Coast Range. Local contributor to AdventureSkier.com, Dave Aronson (aka “Baker Dave”), who was a very close friend of Jack’s, shares with us below some personal thoughts about [...]
It was really nice to see Old Man Winter again on Monday. We found him high above Vermont’s Mad River Valley, getting ready to set off again after a nice weekend in the mountains. He left us a good blanket of snow to enjoy, and he hinted that he would likely be back again soon [...]
The mountains of the northeast picked up anywhere between 2-12″+ between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening… Locally here in the Greens, we enjoyed some of the creamiest powder snow we’ve come across in a while, and on Sunday afternoon, we felt like we were right back to mid winter.
With less than a week to go before we set off to northern Norway, we’ve been busy readying the bikes, our packing system and our BOB ski trailers. The day was comfortably warm and clear here in the Green Mountains of Vermont, so we made the most of it with an afternoon bike-ski adventure close [...]
For about ten years, we’ve been dreaming of taking our bike-supported skiing adventures to another level. Day and weekend trips – especially those beginning and ending in front of the shed – continue to be great fun, but the idea of setting off for weeks on end has only been stewing in our minds. We [...]
It might be a good week to break out the crampons and ice axe for those crispy morning ascents in the big mountains. Then again, it might be a good week to stay closer to home, sample the remnant goods at your local ski area, or go for a good paddle or bike ride…

Jonesing for some fresh snow here in the northeast, we came across this priceless video footage while looking for footage of the recent big dump the Wasatch. We hope the skier, who thought he need to straddle the rope, instead of grabbing a hold of it with his hand, has fully recovered at this point.
